This game was called "Beano" because players instead of drums used red
dried beans. By means of those beans players closed the numbers on the
playing cards. Now this game is called Bingo. Many historians
unanimously think that bingo was invented in Italy. This game was
firstly mentioned in sources of the age of Renaissance dated the year
of 1530. By the way, bingo originated in the game called "lotto". This
word from Italian means "fate" or "fortune'. From Italy bingo spread to
other European countries where it won great popularity, especially in
France. In the 1930s bingo became popular in the USA. The cry "Bingo"
was also invented in the USA by a New Yorker Edward Lowe who was the
first to produce licensed bingo playing cards. By the 1940s bingo has
spread all over the USA and Canada. Every week several thousands of
bingo games were held, and mainly in local churches. |
